Nearly 200 participants of the 18th National Scout Jamboree in Passi City, Iloilo felt unwell due to strenuous activities and exposure to the scorching weather.

Based on data from the City Health Office (CHO), 101 participants were given medical attention during the opening ceremony on Monday, Dec. 11, and 88 were brought to first aid stations as of 12 noon on Tuesday, Dec. 12.

Majority of them experienced difficulty in breathing, headache, dizziness, vomiting, and hyperventilation, according to Dr. Melven Palmares-Oyad, health officer and Committee on Health and Sanitation Infirmary and First Aid chairperson.

Medical personnel and trained emergency responders, Oyad said, have been deployed within the 80-hectare Pintados de Passi Camp to respond to participants who require medical attention.

Around 35,000 scouts and scoutmasters participated in the national event, which will run until Sunday, Dec. 17.IMT
