Nearly half a million students are expected to graduate from elementary and secondary schools in Western Visayas this year.
Based on data from the Department of Education (DepEd-6), a total of 484,247 learners in the region are eligible to attend graduation rites.
Of the number, 164,003 will finish Grade 6 and 320,244 are Grade 12 or senior high school (SHS) graduates.
Meanwhile, 136,609 kindergarten learners will move up to Grade 1 and 157,588 are Grade 10 or junior high school completers.
Under DepEd Memorandum No. 023 Series of 2024, graduation and moving-up ceremonies shall be conducted indoors on any date from May 29 to 31.
“To ensure the safety and protection of learners, teachers and attendees, schools are advised to hold their EOSY (end-of-school-year) Rites in indoor venues with proper ventilation or covered courts to avoid exposure to the extreme heat of the sun,” the memorandum read.
“Schools shall avoid scheduling their EOSY Rites during the time of the day when temperatures are at their highest,” it added.IMT
