Nearly six million tourists visited Western Visayas in 2024, data from the Department of Tourism (DOT-6) showed.

The DOT-6 registered a total of 5,909,568 tourist arrivals last year, higher by 10.25 percent compared to 2023’s 5.36 million.

The region earned about P74 billion from tourism activities, products and services last year. The amount increased from P70 billion in 2023.

Majority or 5,306, 397 of tourists who visited the region last year were local travelers while 603,171 were foreign visitors and overseas Filipinos.

“These achievements stemmed from strategic initiatives championed by the DOT focused on innovation, inclusivity, and sustainability,” DOT-6 regional director Rodriguez said.

The province of Aklan, where the world-famous Boracay Island is located, accounted for 37 percent or more than 2.2 million of the tourist arrivals in the region.

Iloilo City came in second with more than 1 million tourist arrivals, followed by Negros Occidental (888, 514), Bacolod City (830,237), Iloilo province (333,526), Capiz (282, 929), Antique (210, 239), and Guimaras (137,953).IMT
