Nearly half a million pesos worth of properties were turned to ashes when a fire hit a resort in Barangay Baras, Guimbal, Iloilo on Thursday morning, Feb. 8.

A total of 18 cottages at Double R Beach Resort were affected by the fire, of which 13 were totally burned and five were partially damaged.

According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP-Guimbal), the fire quickly spread because the cottages were built too close to each other and were made of light materials.

The fire, which broke out at 9:40 a.m. and lasted for almost an hour, also razed three motor bancas owned by the resort, formerly known as Tinagong Dagat Beach Resort.

The estimated cost of damage to properties was pegged by BFP-Guimbal at P400,000.

No one was reported injured in the incident.

Fire Officer 2 John Mark Sensida of BFP-Guimbal said they are conducting further investigation to determine the origin and cause of the blaze.IMT
