The Department of Health (DOH) has confirmed another case of mpox virus, which was previously known as monkeypox.
There have been 10 cases reported so far.
“Ito ay na-detect last August 18. Ito ay case ng isang 33 taong lalake. Pilipino siya at wala siya travel history. Hindi siya nanggaling ng Africa o ibang bansa,” Secretary Ted Herbosa said in an Aug. 20 presser.
“[His] symptoms started more than a week ago. [It] started with fever and four days later, nakita yung distinct rash sa kanyang face, back, batok, trunk, sa dibdib at abdomen, sa groin, sa palms and soles of the feet,” added Herbosa.
The DOH said common symptoms of mpox are skin rash or mucosal lesions that last two to four weeks accompanied by fever, headache, muscle pain, back pain, fatique and swollen lymph nodes.
“Ang transmission ng mpox ay through closed contact or intimate contact… Ang isa pang learning natin since na present itong disease na ito ay pwedeng ma-contaminate sa materials like clothes and utensils of infected individuals. Pero soap and water will kill the virus,” according to the secretary.
“Lahat ng magkakaroon ng sintomas ay sana magpatingin sa doktor. Ang doktor magde-decide kung sila ay ite-test for mpox or not. Usually three to four days ang result nung PCR test na ginagawa,” said Herbosa.IMT
