Negrense boxer Donnie “Ahas” Nietes made an outstanding return in the ring after knocking down Pablo Carillo of Colombia via a unanimous decision win during their super-flyweight division showdown.
After a 27-month hiatus, the former four-division titleholder Nietes got back in action to get the attention of the sparse crowd in Dubai. He proved his usual winning moves to beat Carillo through solid punches and attacks.
Nietes landed 97 of 425 punches (23 percent), and Carrillo connected on 81 of 415 total punches (19 percent).
The 38-year-old Nietes executed good momentum in the early stages, looking sharp and sound still in the final four rounds. Colombia’s Carrillo with 25-8-1, 16 KO record never found quite enough success, though he did have some, landing solid shots here and there.
With the victory, Nietes improved his records to 43-1-5 (23 KOs). He got the scores 96-95, 98-92, and 99-91 to retain his formidable performance.
He also makes an interesting veteran wild card in the exciting junior bantamweight division, which boasts Juan Francisco Estrada, Srisaket Sor Rungvisai, Chocolatito Gonzalez, Kazuto Ioka, Jerwin Ancajas, and other good fighters.IMT
