There is no truth to a social media post claiming that Malacañang approved the recommendation to close Boracay Island in Malay, Aklan from April 15 to 30 due to the “heat wave.”
According to the post, which used the name of the Department of Health (DOH-6) and bore the logo of the Office of the President, the closure was approved on April 1.
“The DOH would like to clarify that there is no such recommendation made by the Department to the Office of the President,” the DOH-6 said in a statement on Monday, April 3.
The Department of Tourism (DOT-6), in a separate statement, branded the post as “fake news.”
“Please be vigilant and check the source of the news article to avoid being a victim of fake news,” it said.
Boracay is Western Visayas’ top tourist drawer. It is famous its powdery-white sand and crystal-clear waters.IMT
