Tyhoon Kiko (Chanthu) will “not affect” the province of Iloilo, according to Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) head Jerry Bionat.

“Ato sa extreme Northern Luzon [si] Kiko. Iloilo will not be affected so no need [to] prepare on our part,” Bionat told IMT NEWS.

Based on the Sept. 9 weather bulletin issued by PAGASA, Kiko was last spotted 670 kilometers east of Baler, Aurora, still moving west at 20 kilometers per hour (km/h).

It has maximum sustained winds of 195 km/h and gustiness of up to 240 km/h.

In conducting pre-disaster risk assessment (PDNA), Bionat said they look at “the path of entry, track of the typhoon, diameter of the typhoon, rainfall intensity, and warning signal,”

“Sa akon observation, ang entry sang bagyo is Samar and Bicol, and kung magsulod na siya sa during months of January to September, ang next track is gapababaw na sya. Gacurve na sya pababaw going northwest direction. Indi na kita maapektuhan,” he explained.

“Kung Surigao provinces naman ang entry during months of January to September Laban-laban ma-igo kita. Daw pareho sang Yolanda nga nagsulod November. Nagabawod na siya heading to west kag south nga direction pero kung during months of October, November, and December kag sa Surigao siya masulod, huyupon na siya sang Amihan and makadto sa Palawan,” Bionat further said.

According to PAGASA, Kiko is expected to pass very close to the northeastern part of Cagayan and cross the vicinity of Babuyan Islands between Friday afternoon, Sept. 10, and early Saturday morning, Sept. 11.

Then it will pass over the south and west of Batanes between Saturday morning and afternoon.IMT
