Woodpushers from the towns of Nueva Valencia and Buenavista topped the first online chess tournament organized by the Guimaras’ Players’ Center Sports Academy over the weekend.
The tournament was divided into two categories – 18 under and 12 under.
John Nava from Nueva Valencia emerged champion in the 18 under after beating Kimberly Colaste and Rio Galfo, who settled for second and third placers, respectively.
In the 12 under division, Jenre Angelo Fabay snatched the hard-earned victory.
The 12-year-old resident of Tagoon Salvacion topped the podium after outsmarting Edian Martires and Arean Rose Seravanes.
Organized by West Visayas State University’s (WVSU) Sports Director Dr. Richard Gabayoyo, the event was participated in by 30 chessers.
Gabayoyo thanked Justino Maglipong and Sheila Sinoy-Ferrer for supporting the tournament.
“With the Players’ Center Sports Academy online chess tournament, I am very thankful to the chess players who have participated in the recently concluded online chess tournament. We were amazed of the turnout of the tournament. We promise that we will continue to organize online chess tournament to identify potential chess players in Guimaras,” he said.IMT
