The number of people left dead by Typhoon Odette (international name: Rai) in the Western Visayas) region has risen to 32, according to the Office of Civil Defense Office (OCD-6).
Majority or 28 of the casualties were from Negros Occidental, 2 from Guimaras, and 1 each from the province and city of Iloilo, latest data showed.
The typhoon affected 276,191 families or 1,071,440 persons from 2,010 barangays in the region.
Broken down, 163, 564 affected families were Negros Occidental; 38, 967 from Iloilo province; 35, 425 from Capiz; 18,995 from Antique; 14, 660 from Aklan; 2,140 from Guimaras; 1,193 from Iloilo City; and 1,220 from Bacolod City.
The OCD-6 also reported 42, 386 displaced families inside evacuation centers and 180, 040 families outside evacuation centers.
Of those inside the centers, 29, 127 families were from Negros Occidental; 9,796 from Iloilo province; 3, 442 from Antique and 21 from Guimaras.
On the other hand, 118, 229 houses were damaged by Odette in the region, of which 44,499 were totally wrecked and 73,730 were partially damaged.
Negros Occidental accounted for highest number of affected houses at 104, 655; followed by Iloilo province (9, 646), Antique (2, 219), Guimaras (1, 567), Aklan (112), and Capiz (30).
The entire Western Visayas, one of the regions badly hit by the typhoon, is currently under a state of calamity.IMT
