The entire province of Guimaras has been placed under a state of calamity due to the massive devastation caused by Typhoon Odette.

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan approved a resolution declaring the state of calamity during a special session held on Sunday, Dec. 19.

The declaration was recommended by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC)

This will enable the provincial government to use its disaster fund to help those affected by the typhoon, said Governor Samuel Gumarin.

Based on data from the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC), Guimaras recorded 27 totally destroyed houses and 100 partially damaged houses as of Dec. 18.

About 2,670 individuals in the island province were affected by flooding.
