Retail prices of onions, garlic and other spices in Western Visayas have dropped.
Based on the Department of Agriculture’s (DA-6) price monitoring, onion prices decreased by more than P150 per kilogram (kg).
Red onions were sold at P350/kg in the fourth week of January this year, lower compared to P500/kg in the previous week.
White onions decreased from P595/kg to P400/kg.
The price of native garlic went down from P140/kg to P120/kg while native ginger was sold at P65/kg from P80/kg.
Siling labuyo and hot pepper were sold at P300/kg from P600/kg and P177/kg from P200/kg, respectively.
On the other hand, retail prices of dried fish increased in the fourth week of the first month of 2023.
The price of dilis increased by P105/kg; tuyo tamban by P20/kg; and galunggong and labahita by P10/kg each.
The DA-6 also noted an increase in retail prices of highland and lowland vegetables.
The price of Margoso went up by P40/kg; carrots by P25/kg; monggo and broccoli by P15/kg each; sitaw, pechay Baguio and talong by P10/kg each; Baguio beans by P7.50/kg; and cabbage by P5/kg.IMT
