The Iloilo City Government has so far vaccinated 3.78 percent of its target population against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

From March to July 8 this year, a total of 17,020 out of 450,000 residents received the first vaccine dose, data from the City Health Office (CHO) showed.

Of the fully vaccinated individuals, majority or 16,940 received the Sinovac vaccine, while 40 percent got the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Meanwhile, 21.21 percent or 95, 488 individuals of the target population have their first jab.

Broken down, 77, 182 of them were inoculated with the Sinovac vaccine, 17, 616 were injected with the AstraZeneca vaccine and 690 received the Pfizer vaccine.

Mayor Jerry P. Treñas said the low vaccination turnout in the city was due to insufficient vaccine supply.

The city, according to Treñas, can vaccinate 30,000 to 40,000 individuals a week.

The mayor has been appealing to the national government to give the city more vaccine allocation for them to achieve their target of vaccinating at least 50 percent of the population by the end of 2021.IMT
