The controversial scholarship program of the Capiz Provincial Government was finally approved during the regular session on Dec. 17.

Board Member Thea Faith Reyes, chair committee on education, said the measure entitled “An Ordinance Establishing the Capiz Provincial Government Scholarship and Educational Assistance Program and Appropriating Funds thereof” will take effect once approved by the Governor Esteban “Nonoy” Bacero Contreras.

Earlier, Contreras discontinued giving educational assistance to some 5,000 students from both public and private schools because of budget constraints.

The Aksyon Agad Scholarschip program was initiated by the previous administration.

The present governor gives only some P1,000 to each student as financial assistance.

Before, each student-beneficiary was receiving P10,000 per semester.

To continue the scholarship program, Contreras asked the provincial board members to pass a resolution.

Reyes said she was happy and thanked her fellow board members who supported the ordinance.IMT
