More businesses in Iloilo City applied for the renewal of their permits this year, according to the Business Permit and Licensing Division (BPLD).
The city government’s BPLD issued a total of 14, 473 business renewal permits from January 1 to 31, 2024, about 15 percent higher than the 12, 593 in the same period a year ago.
Velma Lao, Local Economic Development and Investment Promotion (LEDIP) Office head, attributed the increase to the “strong advocacy of City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas and the existence of off-site payment centers enabling the clients to accessibly process their renewals in the city’s partner malls.”
“Another reason is we continue to create a good business-enabling environment where businessmen foresee profitable growth. They have confidence that they can make it this 2024,” she added.
The off-site payment centers are located in SM City Iloilo, Festive Walk Mall at Megaworld, The Atrium, and Marymart Center.
Aside from permit renewals, BPLD also released permits to 219 new businesses in the city as early as January.
“We should maintain the vibrancy of our economy. We support local businesses; we continue to bring in new people, tourists, relatives, OFWs, and friends to experience Iloilo City and patronize our businesses here,” said Lao.IMT
