Ilongga lawmaker Sharon Garin said the errors found in the Department of Education’s (DepEd) learning materials were “disappointing.”
From October 2020 to June this year, the DepEd recorded 155 confirmed errors in learning materials used by public school students for the distance learning.
According to Undersecretary Diosdado San Antonio, 104 of the errors were found in locally-developed materials, 25 from materials reviewed by the DepEd Central Office, 19 from unknown sources, 5 from DepEd TV episodes, and 1 each from an art material by private publishers and from a DepEd textbook.
“155 [errors are] substantial and as a committee, it has to be like what did we do to correct this and not let this happen again? It’s disappointing,” Garin said during a hearing at the House of Representatives on Monday, June 14.
“One topic I’m particular about is ‘yung unknown sources. How did it happen? ‘Di ba nakakatakot ‘yan, nakakalusot ‘yan and hindi niyo alam saan nanggaling,” the AAMBIS-OWA party-list Representative added.
San Antonio said those from unknown sources are materials “posted on social media” but they “could not find” where they came from.
“Hindi po ‘yan ma-locate, wala pong nakapagpapakita sa amin na nasa DepEd ‘yan o ginawa ‘yan ng DepEd,” he told the House Committee on Public Accounts.
In the same hearing, educator Antonio Calipjo Go presented a module for Pampanga students, which defines “aswang” as: “Siya rin ay isang dies pero ang Aswang ay pinaniniwalaan na ito’y tao na kumakain ng kapwa tao, kung minsan ang mga ito ay pinapaniwalaan na may mga pakpak at sila raw ay gising kung gabi para maghanap ng makakantot or maaswang.”
The word “k*ntot,” is sexual intercourse in English.
San Antonio said the inclusion of the vulgar word is unacceptable. “The module was recalled last February.”IMT
