The Iloilo Provincial Govenrment has set aside P15 million for the development of six new football fields in the province.
The amount will be sourced from the Provincial School Board- Special Education Fund, according to a press release (PR).
The provincial government, through the Iloilo Sports Management and Development Office (ISMDO), identified recipient schools.
These schools are Oton National High School, Janiuay National High School, New Lucena National High School, Cabatuan National High School, Carlos Lopez National High School in San Dionisio and Barotac Nuevo National High School.
“Governor Arthur Defensor Jr., acting as chairman of the Provincial School Board has committed to develop additional venues for students interested in football,” the PR stated.
“Having a football field in school could afford our youngsters a good training ground to enhance their fundamental skills in soccer and eventually create varsity teams among public schools,” it added.
The construction of the football fields, which cost P2,500,000 each, is part of the provincial government’s One Town, One Football Field is a Sports Development Program.
The program, conceptualized by ISMDO, “aims to equip public schools within the province with standard soccer facilities and playing surfaces for students interested in sports.”IMT
