The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH-6) has ensured that travels to highland communities of Leon and its neighboring town, Alimodian, are safe and accessible.
With the rehabilitation and improvement of the road particularly in the village of Tagsing amounting to P28.949-million, the road leads to various destinations as well as agricultural-producing communities in the upland areas.
It also provides alternate access going to the province of Antique.
DPWH-6 reported that the road project implemented by the DPWH Iloilo 4th District Engineering Office, involves the rehabilitation of the existing 57-lineal meter road portion along Junction Bancal-Leon-Antique Boundary Road, specifically in the village of Tagsing, Leon, including the construction of 57-meter long, 6-meter-high slope protection structure resting on sheet piles foundation and guard rails to ensure road stability and safety of the motorists and residents.
DPWH-6 director Sanny Boy O. Oropel, citing from the report of District Engineer Mario G. Soriano, said the rehabilitation and improvement of the road section eases mobility of the people and easier access for transport of products from farms to the market.
“This road improvement ensures that transportation going to the far-flung barangays in the town of Leon and neighboring town of Alimodian, significantly benefits our local farmers and agricultural producers,” Oropel said.
Oropel added that the better road condition likewise offers a vital contribution to economic development and growth in the locality and provides easy access to basic services and economic opportunities for an improved quality of life.
With the rehabilitated road, according to Oropel, residents in the upland barangays of Leon will have an uninterrupted, all-weather access to the town proper to secure their basic home and personal needs, even when heavy rains occur.
On the other hand, Soriano said the road improvement will help enhance the tourism industry in central Iloilo as this provides access to various tourist destinations such as Bucari Pineridge and Imoy Falls.
“With this road improvement, we can ensure safer travel among local and foreign tourists visiting these magnificent destinations in the town of Leon and neighboring town of Alimodian,” said Soriano.
He further said the improved road will facilitate easier, cost-efficient transport of farm products and easier access for the government in the delivery of basic services to the people.
“This road leads to vast agricultural lands; hence, its improvement will greatly benefit the people, especially producers of crops and other agricultural products, and animal raisers. With this improved road, our farmers can easily transport their products from farms to the market faster and at lower hauling cost, which could eventually help alleviate their economic condition,” said Soriano.AAL/LAF/PIA6-Iloilo/dpwh6
