Tribu Paghidaet of La Paz National High School emerged triumphant in the Tribes Competition of this year’s Dinagyang Festival.
The school-based tribe was declared the grand champion during the awarding ceremony at the Iloilo Freedom Grandstand on Sunday evening, Jan. 26. It took home a trophy and a cash prize worth P1.2 million.
Their winning performance featured the Tree of Life, an “ancient symbol” that “represents the community’s deep-rooted relationship with nature the cycle of life, as well as our unwavering faith.”
Aside from the title, the tribe also bagged the Best in Costume Design and Headdress (P10,000) and Best in Performance (P10,000) awards.
Paghidaet snatched the crown from Tribu Pan-ay of Fort San Pedro National High School, which settled for the first runner-up spot this year and took home P700,000.
Pan-ay also won the Best in Choreography (P10,000), Best in Production Design (P10,000) and Best in Discipline (P10,000) awards.
Tribu Ilonganon of Jalandoni Memorial National High School was adjudged second runner-up and received a cash prize of P300,000. It also won the Best in Street Dance (P10,000) award.
Tribu Salognon of Jaro National High School and Tribu Parianon nga naga Silak of Molo district were proclaimed third and fourth runners-up, respectively. They received P250,000 each.
Tribu Parianon nga naga Silak also clinched the Best in Street Dance (P10,000) award.
Other competing tribes this year were Tribu Pag-asa Kang Mandurriao, Tribu Hangaway, and Tribu Molave.IMT
