The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is assisting residents impacted by the eruption of Mt. Kanlaon on Negros Island following the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

“Patuloy pa rin po ang binibigyan ng serbisyo ayon na rin sa direktiba ng ating Pangulo,” Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said during a press briefing in Malacañang.

Castro added that field offices in Western and Central Visayas are coordinating with local government units (LGUs) in the affected areas.

“Patuloy pa rin po ang pagbibigay ng mga provisions o family food packs and non-food items sa ating mga kababayan na naaapektuhan,” according to her.

She also mentioned that Malacañang would review LGU requests for additional funding to support affected residents.

Castro confirmed that the alert level remains at Level 3, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS). She reiterated the warning to avoid the six-kilometer danger zone to ensure safety.

Mt. Kanlaon erupted Tuesday morning, April 8, releasing an ash plume and pyroclastic density currents, similar to the eruption on December 9, 2024.IMT
