Malacañang has confirmed that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has granted executive clemency to former Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog.
“In view of former Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog’s long standing commitment to good governance, coupled with awards and recognition received by Iloilo City under his leadership, the President granted Mabilog’s petition for executive clemency in connection with his administrative case, thereby removing the penalties or disabilities resulting from such case,” according to Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin.
Executive clemency includes “reprieve, absolute pardon, conditional pardon with or without parole conditions, and commutation of sentence,” as granted by the President of the Philippines.
On October 23, 2027, the Office of the Ombudsman issued a dismissal order against Mabilog in connection with a towing services agreement the city government entered into in 2015 with a firm he allegedly owned.
Based on the decision, Mabilog violated Section 3 (h) of Republic Act No. 3019, or the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act, as implemented by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
Section 3(h) of RA 3019 prohibits public officers from having financial interest in a business, contract, or transaction in which they participate in their official capacity.
Also, former President Rodrigo Duterte accused Mabilog of being a drug protector, prompting him to seek refuge in the United States. He returned to the Philippines in September 2024.IMT
