Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas considers the Panay-Guimaras-Negros Island (PGN) Bridges project as a “major accomplishment” of the Regional Development Council’s (RDC-6) Infrastructure Development Committee (IDC) under his leadership.

“This dream has been with us long before I became a congressman. Finally, we can say it’s a dream come true,” Treñas, who also serves as IDC chairman, said on Monday, March 3.

The construction of the  project’s Section A or the The Panay-Guimaras (Section A) segment is set to start within this year and is expected to be completed by 2028.

The first section, spanning 13 kilometers, will connect Leganes in Panay to Buenavista in Guimaras. It is is projected to cost P57 billion.

Meanwhile, the project’s Section B involves the construction of a bridge between the islands of Guimaras and Negros.

The detailed engineering design (DED) for the project is 79.75 percent complete as of February 2024 and is expected to be finalized by September this year, according to engineer Antonio Erwin Aranaz, project manager of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Unified Project Management Office.
