Senator Grace Poe has called on the managements of the Iloilo International Airport and the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) to address their malfunctioning airconditioning system and elevators.
In a statement, Poe said these problems were causing inconvenience to passengers.
“Sa bawat airport, gusto nating bigyan ng warm welcome ang bawat byahero. Naging literal naman yata ang ‘warm’ sa NAIA at Iloilo airport dahil parang pugon daw sa init ang loob nito dahil sa sirang aircon,” she said in a statement.
Poe, who serves as chairperson of the Senate committee on public services, said she wants to find out how the P190 million set aside in the 2024 budget is being utilized for the repairs and maintenance of the airport in Iloilo.
“During deliberations, we have fought hard for the budget and we want to make sure its benefits trickle down to the people,” the senator stressed.
Earlier, Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas appealed to the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) to fast-track the process for the privatization of Iloilo airport.
“It has become apparent that the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) cannot take care of the airport. It needs to be privatized,” he said.IMT
