The Iloilo-Guimaras Paraw Regatta, which is dubbed as the oldest sailing event in Asia, will go virtual this year.
Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas said that the Iloilo-Guimaras Paraw Regatta Digital 2021 will follow the same format used during the 2021 Dinagyang Festival.
“With the resounding success of the recent Dinagyang Digital 2021 spearheaded by the Iloilo Festivals Foundation Inc., co-organized by the Iloilo City Government, we are once again taking into the virtual platform the oldest sailing event in Asia,” he said.
Treñas said this summer special will be held on May 30, 2021 at 10 AM, and will be streamed on various online and social media platforms.
“This is a manifestation of our strong commitment to continue celebrating our rich cultures and traditions despite being confronted with the challenges of this pandemic, because our identity as Ilonggos is truly worth celebrating,” he said.
Paraw Regatta is an annual festival which showcases a race among colorful sailboats in the Iloilo Strait.
