The parish priest of Miagao, Iloilo tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and passed away on April 2.
Father Angelo Colada, director of the Archdiocese of Jaro’s Commission on Social Communications, said Reverend Father Winifredo Losaria was infected with SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus that causes the deadly disease.
Losaria underwent swab testing early last month after experiencing symptoms of COVID-19. His test yielded positive result.
Before the result came out, the Sto. Tomas de Villanueva Church, or commonly known as Miagao Church, was locked down for disinfection.
Colada said Losaria returned to Miagao after the latter was quarantined.
A few days after, Losaria felt unwell and was brought to a hospital. The priest was again swabbed and the result turned out positive.
His body was cremated immediately in compliance with protocols on COVID-19 deaths.
A mass was held at Miagao Church on Monday, April 5, before Losaria’s cremated remains were transferred to The Espousal of Our Lady- Mandurriao Parish in Iloilo City, his former parish assignment.
From Mandurriao district, the priest’s remains will then be brought to his hometown in Lambunao where he would be laid to rest.IMT
