The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Thursday, July 4, conducted a medical evacuation on a Chinese crew member who accidentally sustained cuts in his left thumb in an accident 20.69 nautical miles (NM) west of Semirara Port in Caluya, Antique.
In a situation report on Friday, July 5, the PCG said the 35-year-old second engineer of Hong Kong-flagged bulk carrier MV BBG Qinzhou said his injury stemmed from being cut by a fan blade.
“The foreign vessel departed Nansha, China going to Tanjung Bara, Indonesia, when the incident occurred,” it said.
In coordination with the vessel’s captain and agent, the PCG deployed BRP Kalanggaman (FPB-2404) to meet with the ship at 1.5 NM off Nogas Island in Anini-y, Antique.
The patient was successfully evacuated at around 6 p.m.
“Four PCG medical personnel provided medical assistance while underway to Muelle Loney Wharf in Iloilo City,” it said.
The PCG ship arrived at the wharf in Iloilo City at 8:30 p.m. and turned over the patient to the vessel’s agent, who handled the transportation to the hospital.PNA
