Power, cable and telecommunications companies in Iloilo City have started clearing the downtown streets of spaghetti wires and redundant poles.
The move is in response to Mayor Jerry P. Treñas’ call to clear all Dinagyang routes of unsightly things.
Marcelo Cacho, head of the Iloilo Utilities Group (IUG), said they have pooled their resources for the undertaking.
IUG is composed of electric, cable and telecommunications companies
“Our priority for the clearing are JM Basa, Iznart Streets and the Muelley Loney area,” said Cacho, who also serves as administrative manager of power distributor Panay Electric Company (PECO).
He commended all the utility companies for their cooperation.
“Bisan sa manpower complement the telcos have also provided kay kalabanan sang bundling is on their side – their wires,” he said.
According to Cacho, PECO began bundling its wires early this year.
“Sa PECO, some of the poles we are removing kon redundant, but mostly ang amon coordination lang with the telcos para makasaylo ang mga wires nila sa mga poste namon while at the same time bundling their wires,” he said.
“Para at least indi ma-bundle ang electric lines man bala kay amo man na problema last time nag cause sang pole fires — ang pag-bundle sang contractor nila sang ila electric wires and telco wires. At least bala coordinated ang tanan to clean up the downtown area,” Marcelo further said.
Based on data from IUG, a total of 27 redundant poles were removed and relocated from Dec. 4 to 10.
Other activities done by IUG include tidying of wires, meters and bundling as well as transfer of blue boxes and street lights.
PECO provided two basket trucks, one boom truck and another one if needed, four personnel, and two line engineers.
Cable Star Iloilo provided four personnel, Globe Telecom had one boom truck and three personnel, Sky Cable Iloilo had two personne, and PLDT had four personnel.
Cacho said that there are some non-functioning cable wires or dead wires that need to be pulled out.
He is positive that they could fully carry out the clearing of the downtown area before the Dinagyang 2020.IMT
