Candidates and political parties planning to hold caucuses, rallies, parades and other similar assemblies in Iloilo City are required to get permits.
This was explained by the Ma. Irene Ong, Liga ng Barangay president and ex-officio member of the City Council, during a media interview on Wednesday, April l2.
Citing an order from the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), Ong said all candidates and political parties need to secure permits before mounting any election campaign activity in villages in the city.
They must obtain barangay clearances and permits issued by the city government, according to Ong.
She appealed to candidates and political parties to process their permits days before the schedule of their activities.
In a statement, Mayor Jerry Treñas stressed that permits are granted to all political groups, “provided there are no scheduling conflicts and they comply with the guidelines set by [COMELEC].”
“I see no reason why any group would be denied permission to hold a political gathering,” he said.IMT
