President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has called on the government and stakeholders to prioritize the development of the semiconductor and electronics industry, recognizing its substantial economic benefits.

During a meeting with the Private Sector Advisory Council-Education and Jobs Sector Group (PSAC-EJSG) in Malacañang Tuesday, January 20, Marcos Jr. discussed updates on prior recommendations and new proposals related to the semiconductor industry, education, and workforce development.

“Actually, we really need to push on the semiconductor industry. It’s because, again, it’s not something that we had in mind but the situation — considering how much money we make as the income we get from exports already,” the President said.

He suggested fast-tracking measures through the Implementing Rules and Regulations, citing the lengthy process involved in passing the CREATE MORE Law.

Marcos Jr. also raised the need for incentives tailored to the semiconductor industry, similar to those granted to car manufacturing and other sectors.IMT
