President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said the Philippines could further strengthen people-to-people exchanges with the United Kingdom (UK) due to their strong bilateral relations.

In a meeting with UK Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Affairs David Lammy in Malacañang, Marcos Jr. highlighted the growing Filipino community in the UK. He noted that Filipinos there appreciate the warm welcome they have received.

“That’s a very clear indication of how strong our relations have become in many, many areas. So, I’m sure your visit will be a symbol of that strengthening relationship,” the President said.

Around 200,000 Filipinos work in the UK, contributing to sectors like IT, aviation, hospitality, and healthcare. Since 2001, more Filipino engineers and IT experts have joined British firms in telecommunications, software, and e-commerce.

Lammy’s visit aims to deepen PH-UK ties. He and Marcos Jr. discussed trade, investments, maritime concerns, climate change, and the environment.

The Philippines and the UK established formal diplomatic relations on July 4, 1946.IMT
