Regional directors of the Philippine National Police (PNP) have been given one week to eliminate illegal gambling operations in their respective areas of responsibility.
“I have forwarded to you list of operators in your different regions. I’m giving you a week,” said PNPchief Police General Archie Francisco Gamboa on Saturday, Feb. 22.
Curbing illegal gambling is one of Gamboa’s priorities.
The PNP chief said those who fail to wipe out all forms of illegal gambling would be relieved from their posts.
Gamboa also reminded police officers not to accept bribes from operators of illegal gambling.
Earlier, Police Brigadier General Rene Pamuspusan admitted that bookies or illegal numbers game operations are rampant in some parts of Western Visayas.
“Apparently, there are really individuals who keep on insisting on doing something illegal,” he said.
According to Pamuspusan, bookies operations are prevalent specifically in Aklan and Iloilo.
Based on data from the PRO-6, 355 individuals in 100 operations were arrested in the region last month.IMT
