A total of 84 individuals in Western Visayas have been arrested for violating the election gun ban as part of the security measures for the May 2025 polls.
The figure was recorded from the start of the election period on January 12 to March 18, data from the Police Regional Office (PRO-6) showed.
The province of Negros Occidental had the highest number of violators in the region at 24, followed by Iloilo province (19), Capiz (14), Iloilo City (5), Aklan (4) Antique (3), and Guimaras (3).
According to PRO-6 spokesperson Police Lieutenant Colonel Arnel Solis, most of he violators, who were apprehended in checkpoints and police operations, were civilians
The total number of confiscated firearms so far reached 90.
Based on Resolution No. 11067 issued by the Commission on Election (COMELEC), the implementation of the nationwide gun ban will be in effect until June 11.IMT
