Preparations have already started for the reopening of Iloilo City on May 1 after more than a month of lockdown due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
“Nagmeeting na ang multisectoral task force para sa preparasyon sa May 1 nga pagbukas sang syudad,” Mayor Jerry Treñas said in a press conference on yesterday, April 17.
“Gusto ko na nga magbukas na kita kay kaluluoy ang mga pumuluyo nga wala trabaho,” he told reporters.
The task force is composed of businessmen, medical experts, and representatives of the academe and government agencies.
Treñas stressed that the reopening of the city will be a gradual process. “Not all restrictions will be lifted on May 1.”
“Kon magbukas na sa May 1, ang tanan i-require gihapon nga magsuksok sang face masks, ipadayon ang border restrictons, kag amat-amat lang ang pagbukas sang negosyo,” he said.
“Indi pa magbukas ang klase, wala sang misa, wala sang kasal, bunyag kag lubong agud malikawan ang mass gathering,” the mayor added.
The entire city has been placed under the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) to contain the spread of COVID-19.
The implementation of ECQ was supposed to end on April 14 but Treñas extended it until April 30.
The city currently has five confirmed cases of the infectious disease. The total number includes one death and one recovery. IMT
