The price of red onions at the Iloilo Terminal Market in Iloilo City has risen to almost P300 per kilogram.
From P250 last week, a kilo of red onions is now at P290, radio station Bombo Radyo-Iloilo reported on Tuesday, Nov. 22.
Each kilo is equivalent to 13 pieces, which cost about P23 each.
Vendors said their customers with a limited budget resort to buying onions in smaller quantities.
In a report by The Manila Times, Department of Agriculture Undersecretary Domingo Panganiban said they considering the importation of 7,000 metric tons of red onions as retail prices continue to increase.
“I saw that the retail price reached P300 per kilo. I called the BPI to take a survey and see what can be done on whether we need to import.”IMT
