The celebration of the Dinagyang Festival in Iloilo City was generally peaceful and orderly, according to the Police Regional Office (PRO-6).

The Site Task Group (STG) Dinagyang 2024 recorded zero major incidents from the festival’s opening salvo on Jan. 12 until its last day on Sunday, Jan. 28.

The task group was created to “monitor the peace and order situation and the deployment of personnel in the city.

A total of 8,607 policemen and force multipliers were deployed in the metropolis to ensure the safety of the public during the celebration.

“Both uniformed and covert police were dispatched to locate and apprehend offenders engaged in minor offenses and other nefarious acts that would jeopardize the city’s peace and order,” PRO-6 said.

“A key component of the overall security plan is the enforcement of gun prohibitions and strict imposition of safety procedures. Only those in uniform are permitted to carry firearms during the festivities,” it added.

PRO-6 director Police Brigadier General Sidney Villaflor commended all the security forces who took part in the Dinagyang 2024 overall security coverage.

“The success of the Dinagyang Festival is, in no small part, attributable to the exceptional security coverage provided by policemen, other law enforcement agencies, and force multipliers/advocacy and volunteer groups,” he said.

“Their commitment to ensuring the safety of all attendees and dignitaries has not gone unnoticed and is sincerely appreciated. Thank you for your tireless efforts and dedication to maintaining a secure Iloilo City during the festival,” Villaflor further said.IMT
