Establishments hosting persons under monitoring (PUMs) and patients under investigation (PUIs) for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Iloilo City are mandated to strictly implement proper handling and disposal of wastes.

The mandate is stipulated in Executive Order (EO) No. 051 issued by Mayor Jerry P. Treñas on Monday, March 16.

“To prevent the induction and spread of COVID-19, and other emerging diseases, there is a need for the Iloilo City Government to strictly initiate and implement appropriate infection prevention and control measures, strict observance of waste management regulations, including proper handling and disposal solid, pathological, and infectious wastes,” the EO stated.

The EO covers all hospitals, clinics, hotels, resorts and similar establishments.

“All covered institutions shall strictly segregate all hazardous and infectious, wastes generated by PUMs and PUIs.”

“Further, such wastes shall be collected, treated, and transported separately in full observance of the Department of Health (DOH) and Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) guidelines as well as that of Pollution Abatement Systems Specialists, Inc. (PASSI), the duly authorized joint venture partner of the Iloilo City Government for the handling of such wastes.”

The City Health Office, as of 10 a.m. today, March 18, recorded 980 PUMs and 27 PUIs.IMT
