The Iloilo Provincial Government has tapped Alexie Mae Caimoso-Brooks, the newly crowned Miss Eco International Philippines, to help promote the province as an eco-tourism destination.
In a press conference, Governor Arthur Defensor, Jr. said he will appoint the Ilongga beauty queen as the province’s eco-tourism ambassador.
“We will have Alexie as our ambassador especially that she is Miss Eco International. Because one of the areas of our tourism industry is eco-tourism,” he said.
Brooks’ win, according to Defensor, is very timely as the provincial government is about to launch a tourism program dubbed “Turista sa Barangay for MoRProGRes.”
The program aims to “develop the barangay as a community venue for tourism events and activities, as well as the point of care for tourists in the province.”
Defensor said barangays would be developed as the point of care so their residents are ready to attend to guests as tourism is the source of livelihood in the villages.
“We engage the beneficiary as the front line. We want Alexie to be the front line here as we sell Iloilo in the new approach for our tourism,” he added.
Brooks, a native of Leon town, represented Iloilo City in Miss Universe Philippines 2024 and became one of the Top 10 finalists.IMT
