The Commission on Elections (COMELEC-Iloilo City) has already registered more than 321,000 potential voters for the May 2022 polls.
The figure is higher by nine percent compared to the 2019 midterm elections’ 294,000 registered voters.
It is expected to further increase after the Oct. 31 deadline for the voter registration.
“This is a testament para ipakita ang kagustohan nga magpartisipar sa election,” said lawyer Rainier Layson, city election officer.
“Sang September nalagpasan naton. Naka-rehistro kita 19,641, on top of the number of people nga na-rehistro naton from January until April this year and sang last year,” he noted.
For Ilonggo voter Dennis Pedrosa, he said every vote counts and it is important exercise our right to vote.
“The right to vote gives us an opportunity to be part of the decision-making that affects our lives as well as the community. Our votes give victory to candidates that we want to lead. It also helps sustain for the good of our political system,” he added.
COMELEC-Iloilo City can accommodate 1,000 registrants daily. It also ensured that people are observing health protocols to avoid the spread of COVID-19 cases.
Its office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Saturday, Oct. 31.IMT
