President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. urged the nation to remember the victims of recent typhoons and other disasters this Christmas as he stressed that every Filipino deserves to celebrate the season despite the challenges they face.
At the Christmas tree lighting ceremony at the Malacañang grounds on Sunday, Dec. 1, Marcos Jr. called on Filipinos to keep those still recovering from the devastation of multiple typhoons and calamities in their thoughts.
“We all deserve Christmas,” according to him.
The President also reminded everyone that Christmas is a time for joy, but also for compassion toward those in need.
“But as we celebrate, [what] I would like, is to ask you to hold a thought for all those people who up to now are trying to recover from the effects of the six typhoons that we suffered in twenty-three days. Many of them are still in shelters. Many of them are still in need,” he said.
Marcos Jr. also mentioned the fire victims in Tondo and encouraged everyone to continue the tradition of helping one another.
“All of these people, let’s just keep them in mind and do what Filipinos do. Let’s help each other. And my Christmas wish is that despite everything, every Filipino should feel somehow Christmas,” he added.IMT
