Iloilo City is eyeing the gradual resumption of tourism operations as part of efforts to help its economy bounce back from the impact of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) crisis.

The city government’s Tourism and Development Office recently presented to Mayor Jerry P. Treñas
several recommendations for the revival of the city’s tourism industry.

City Tourism Officer Junel Ann Divinagracia recommended the reopening of tourism sites and establishments to locals and inter-region travelers.

These establishments, include, among others, museums, bars and entertainment centers, and coffee shops.

“Health protocols shall be strictly enforced in tourism establishments accredited by the Department of Tourism (DOT) and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG),” Divinagracia emphasized.

The tourism officer also pushed for the conduct of online trainings and re-trainings for tourism frontline workers like taxi drivers and tour guides.

Other recommendations she laid down are the improvement of tourism products; establishment of more bike lanes to support the growing biking community in the city; and the holding of local activities and events in accordance with the health and safety protocols set by Department of Health (DOH).

Divinagracia is hopeful that the celebration of the the Iloilo City Charter Day on August 25, Iloilo Arts Festival in October, and Festival of Lights in December will be allowed.

She also proposed a photo/vlogging contest to encourage locals to visit and promote tourism sites.

Iloilo City is currently under modified general community qaurantine (MGCQ), the lowest quarantine level.IMT
