The Supreme Court (SC) has directed the Solicitor General to comment on the petition challenging the validity of the newly created Negros Island Region (NIR).
Republic Act No. 12000 mandates the establishment of the NIR, comprising the provinces of Negros Occidental, including the City of Bacolod, Negros Oriental, and Siquijor.
The Court required the respondents to file their comment to the petition and prayer for temporary restraining order within a non-extendible period of 10 days from notice.
The petition was filed by a group composed of Rev. Fr. Hendrix Alar, Dr. Maria Lina Eparwa, Engr. Wilfredo Magallano, Atty. Marcelino Maxino, Atty. Jose Imaculado Palmitos, and Atty. Grace Sumalpong on August 29, 2024.
