Several water sources in Iloilo City were found to be contaminated with bacteria that are usually found in human and animal wastes.

Based on data from the City Health Office (CHO), water samples from 25 deep wells and tube wells tested positive for coliform and E.coli.

The disease-causing bacteria were also found in water samples from 23 refilling stations, water vendo machines, bathhouses, tap water sources, and university canteens.

Most of these contaminated water sources are in the villages of Rizal Pala-Pala II, Maria Clara, Esparanza, Rizal Ibarra, Tanza Timawa II, and Taal.

The water testing was conducted from Aug. 26 to 27 following the rise in cases of acute gastroenteritis and other food- and water-borne diseases.

From July 26 to Aug. 28, the CHO recorded three cholera cases and 90 acute gastroenteritis cases, with four fatalities.IMT
