Some towns in the northern part of the province of Iloilo have been placed under Signal No. 1 due to Typhoon Ambo (international name: Vongfong).
These towns, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), are Carles, Balasan, Estancia, Batad.
The state weather bureau also hoisted Signal No. 1 over the town of Pilar in Capiz province.
Ambo made its first landfall in San Policarpo, Eastern Samar at 12:15 p.m. on Thursday, May 14.
PAGASA weather forecaster Aldczar Aurelio, in a report by ABS-CBN News, said the typhoon may make a second landfall over Sorsogon on Friday, May 15.
In its 2 a.m. bulletin, PAGASA said the eye of Ambo was located 55 kilometers (km) west southwest of Juban, Sorsogon or 30 km north northwest of Masbate City, Masbate.
The typhoon was packing maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 180 kph. It’s moving West at 15 kph.IMT
