The Iloilo City Council on Thursday, Jan. 9, approved a resolution recommending a signal shutdown during the highlight of the Dinagyang Festival 2020 on Jan. 26.
Majority of the members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) supported the resolution.
Those who voted in favor of the measure were councilors Lyndon Acap, Candice Tupas, Ed Peñaredondo, Mandrie Malabor, Jay Treñas, Ely Estante, and Jojo Javellana.
Councilors Julienne Grace Baronda and Rudolph Ganzon and ex-officio members Irene Ong and Leila Luntao abstained from voting.
Only councilor Allan Zaldivar rejected the resolution.
Under the resolution, the signal shutdown will run “from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. within the three-kilometer radius from the center of the event.”
The temporary shutdown is for the security purposes of Dinagyang spectators.
Meanwhile, the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) will deploy more than 4,000 police personnel and force multipliers to ensure the peacuful and orderly celebration of Dinagyang.
Lieutenant Mercylin Duero of the ICPO’s Operations Section said a total of 2, 292 police officers will be deployed for Dinagyang and they will be augmented by more or less 2,000 force multipliers.IMT
