SM Prime Holdings Inc. (SMPHI) and Rockwell Land Corporation (RLC) have committed to pursue their projects in Iloilo City, according to Local Economic Development and Investment Promotions Office (LEDIPO) head Velma Jane Lao.
In an interview over radio station RMN-Iloilo, Lao said City Mayor Jerry Treñas met with officials of the two big companies during an investment forum in Pasay City last Nov. 20.
The Sy-led property developer is pushing through with its plan to build a convention center and a multi-level parking building within the SM City Iloilo Complex in Mandurriao district.
Treñas said the SMX Convention Center would be bigger than the Iloilo Convention Center (ICON), which has a seating capacity of up to 3,000.
“Kon makasulod ang SMX we will be able to handle bigger conventions. Kay ang dira sa aton sa ICON mga 3,000. There are times when the organizers are telling me that they have to limit the number of attendees because the ICON cannot accommodate all of them.”
SMHCC first announced in October 2019 that they were building the SMX Convention Center in the city. The construction was supposed to begin in 2020 and was scheduled for completion by the second quarter of 2021.
On the other hand, RLC, the Lopez-owned firm, is looking for a property in the city for its mixed-use development project.
RLC is the developer of Rockwell Center, a high-end mixed-use area in Makati.IMT
