The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) wants schools in Iloilo City to allow their pupils and students to foregoe wearing their uniforms due to dengue.

The SP approved on July 30 a resolution requesting the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and the Department of Education (DepEd) “to suspend the wearing of [prescribed] uniforms in all levels of both public and private schools.”

Resolution 2019-278 recommended pupils and students to wear protective clothes like “ jogging pants or long pants” during school days to protect themselves from mosquitoes carrying the dengue virus.

Councilor Lyndon Acap, proponent of the resolution, noted that most of the dengue victims were 10 years old and below.

He said he already knew that the education department ordered to relax the school uniform policy.

“Pero para ma-avoid na gid ang confusion, mas maayo i-declare nga amo na para once and for all maproteksyunan ang mga kabataan against sa mga lamok,” Acap

explained.

“Pwede na ibalik liwat i-require ang pagsuksok uniforms kon mancontrol na ang ang paglapta sang dengue sa syudad,” he added.

Last week, the SP placed the entire city under a state of calamity due to dengue.

A total of 1,119 dengue cases, including nine deaths, were recorded in the city from January 1 to July 20, 2019.IMT
