The Iloilo River North Bank Road, also known as Iloilo Sunset Boulevard is not only intended to improve mobility in Iloilo but also to provide locals and visitors with a new venue for recreational activities.
The P2.261-billion project is a five-kilometer road that starts at the Molo-Mandurriao Road, intersects with the Iloilo Circumferential Road, and ends at the Oton-Pakiad-Mandurriao Road.
The boulevard has several amenities like a four-meter-wide esplanade, dedicated bike lanes, paved walkways, and lush landscapes, designed to enhance both functionality and aesthetics.
The main attraction in the area is the mesmerizing sunset view in the afternoon that people can enjoy while strolling.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH-6) will officially open the road to vehicular traffic on Friday, Jan. 24.
City Mayor Jerry Treñas said the inauguration program “will feature biking and tree planting activities along the boulevard.”
Former Ilonggo senator Franklin Drilon, who lobbied the “transformative project,” is expected to attend the program.
“This is not an ordinary boulevard. This will be an extension of the Iloilo River Esplanade,” said Drilon.IMT
