A taxi driver in Iloilo is in hot water after he allegedly imposed a fixed rate on his passenger instead of charging by the meter.

The Land Transportation Office (LTO-6) issued on Friday, Jan. 17, a show cause order against the driver.

In the order signed by LTO-6 director Atty. Gaudioso Geduspan II, the driver was given five days to explain “why his driver’s license should not be suspended/revoked for being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle.”

In a video posted on Facebook, the passenger claimed that he was charged a fixed rate of P600 for a trip from a hotel in Mandurriao, Iloilo City to the Iloilo International Airport in Cabatuan.

“Such acts not only violate transportation regulations but also [tarnish] the reputation of the city as a tourist-friendly destination,” the order stated.

In a statement, City Jerry Treñas urged LTO-6 and other concerned agencies to address the problem of overcharging and contracting being done by some taxi drivers.

“Let us ensure that every visitor experiences the best of Iloilo City’s hospitality and leaves with only positive memories,” he said.IMT
