Volleybelles of Bacolod Tay Tung High School (BTTHS) Thunderbolts came out with a solid performance to win the title of the 1st Cong. Greg Gasataya MassKara Cup Women’s Volleyball at the V. Mapa St., Bacolod City, Oct. 3.

The multi-titled Thunderbolts easily walloped the visiting Selection Iloilo (Yzrah) in four sets during the finals: 25-21, 25-23, 24-26 and 25-22.

The home team got their firepower from their captain Shane Carmona, Alyssa Bertolano, Kiesha Dazzie Bedonia, Joan Monares, Kryzten Annikha Cabasac and Katherine Shaine Cortez with the support of Gwen Bañas, Ann Monares, Aurea Alvero, Nicolei Galvan, Erika Galvan, Kathleen Kate Tan, Jermaine Joniega, Sopie Cagalawan, Alijah Ysulan, and Rhean Hebraica Almendralejo.

Meanwhile, in another match, the Iloilo squad earned its ticket to the finals after surviving Bacolod Selection (Team Building), 25-22, 25-20, 21-25 and 25-16.

Other teams that saw action were San Agustin Bacolod, Carlos Hilado Memorial State College (Talisay Selection), and the University of San Agustin-Iloilo.

According to JGM Dreams Foundation president Jose Montalbo, this kind of event provides young volleybelles the venue to further develop their skills as well as learn from veteran players.

“We look forward to a bigger tournament next year. The event is part of the Bacolod City’s 40th Masskara Festival celebration in cooperation with JGM Dreams Foundation and the Negros Federation Volleyball Enthusiast, Inc.,” he added.

Montalbo also stressed that this event may have helped his players — who are seeing action in the upcoming UNIGAMES in Iloilo next week and the Rebisco National Finals. Tay Tung is also looking forward to defending its title in the Palarong Panalawign.IMT
