Ilonggos are not satisfied with how the Iloilo City Government manages the flow of traffic in the metropolis’ thoroughfares.

According to an opinion survey conducted by Random Access Consultancy Inc. (RACI), traffic management received a net satisfaction rating of -12 percent.

The survey involved 300 city residents aged 18 years old and above. Item No. 4 asked the respondents from the city’s seven districts: “Kontento ka bala sa pagdumala sang traffic sa Iloilo City?”

Based on the results, 0.7 percent were very contented, 41.3 percent were contented, 4.0 had no opinion, 41.0 percent were not contented, and and 13.0 percent were very not contented.

Conducted from Feb. 3 to 5 this year, the survey was commissioned by Mayor Jerry P. Treñas. It used multi-stage probability sampling scheme with a margin of error of plus or minus. 5.7 percent.

Treñas, in a statement, said one of the possible reasons for negative satisfaction rating is the problem caused by the closure of the controversial Ungka Flyover.

“Ungka Flyover is mostly under the jurisdiction of the municipality of Pavia. The jurisdiction of Iloilo City is only up to the approach after Christ the King [Memorial Park],” the mayor explained.

He told the [Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO) headed by Jeck Conlu to show their presence at all times.

“[They must] assist in the traffic and not only to apprehend, be at the center of the streets and not along the sidewalks, and show dedication to work and to the Ilonggo community,” said Treñas.

In a separate statement, the mayor vowed that the city governemnt will continue “to find ways” to improve its traffic management system.

“In Iloilo city we do not enjoy pointing fingers. We come up with better services to satisfy our people. We always try to do better. Just like ‘BDO, we find ways,'” he said.IMT
